What inspired you to start this particular venture?
Lee: "When I started working in music, the pandemic happened, and artists couldn't go on tour and make money from live events, which a lot of artists get their money from. I started to really understand all the players within the industry and why artists that were very popular weren't making the money that I thought. I think I started to see artists at the time decide to use platforms like OnlyFans and Patreon, and I personally felt like there should be a platform that's out there that doesn't have all the connotations that OnlyFans has and is specific to artists in the way that Patreon isn't. That was my inspiration and seeing that artists really wanted not just to make money, but engage with their fan base and have an understanding of who their real supporters are."
Are there any unique or innovative technologies SonX utilizes?
Lee: "When you download SonX, you're downloading from the App Store or the Google Play Store, and there is no reason for you to know that this platform has been built on the blockchain. However, it's an incredible technology for us to use because it allows the fan to have a real record of their behaviors. For the artist as well, it's an amazing packet of data. So the way that we use blockchain technology at the moment is if you buy a piece of merch, you get a free digital collectible with it as well. What that allows is two things. The artist is to be able to have a packet of data to see when you became a fan and how fast you bought that piece of merch. But then also if that artist becomes huge in three years and you were that fan that started part of his journey in the beginning."
What is your long-term vision for the company?
Lee: "Our goal is to create an ecosystem where artists can engage with their super fans. We will hopefully help a million artists to make a living wage off of their art."
